Can’t believe GBM 1 was 4 weeks ago…

Hi everyone! This is Thao, the Webmaster. It’s been a long time since I last made a post here because I’m not so good at writing, but I hope you don’t find my random rambling boring 😛 New members, よろしくお願いします!

How’s Fall quarter going for everyone? I’ve just finished my first wave of midterms 3 days ago, and now that I have some time to take a breathe, I looked back and thought, “omg it’s already week 6! Look how many events JSA had had already!” For some reason this quarter has been going by so fast for me, it still feels like just a few days back when the first event that I was a leader of was held. Yep, I’m talking about GBM 1, our first event after Bonfire! XD

We had a huge turn out at GBM 1. New faces, old faces – I was glad to see you all!

We played a few games – bingo and charades, with Pocky and our cool T-shirts from last year as prizes!

There was also a special performance by Asayake Taiko. They were awesome!

Afterwards we went to Tapex for a boba run. Did you know we got 10% off with our membership card? XD

Looking back at these pictures really made me glad I joined JSA. Everyone is so nice, and we have a lot of fun with events every week, every quarter~! Once again thanks everyone for coming out to our GBM, hope you all had a good time. See you guys at more events to come!

Hello everyone~! I’m Thao, JSA new Webmaster, here to give you the first blog post of this quarter which started off with our biggest annual event of the year, Matsuri Festival!!

We began planning for Matsuri since as early as Fall quarter. I had the honor of being an Advertisement Committee Head, which was a pretty interesting experience :3 It was my first time being a Matsuri committee head, and while Advertisement was one of the easier jobs, there were more things involved than I initially thought. But in the end everything turned out really well, and it was nice working with people in my team. Shout-outs to my co-head Abel Cervantes from NSU, Kathy Huynh for the wonderful poster, Jordan Guymon for designing the website, Elliot Yang for the logo and videos, other people in my team for helping with a lot of miscellaneous stuffs, as well as many many volunteers who helped with Matsuri!

This year's beautiful Matsuri poster, designed by Kathy Huynh. Thank you so much~ <3

In Winter quarter, the Presentation Committee held two Work Parties where we got together and made Matsuri decorations:

The result! This thing was cute too :3

Week 1 of Spring was a busy week when everyone went all out with preparing for Matsuri. For Advertisement, it meant flyering everywhere~

And selfie everywhere, too

And selfie everywhere, too

It wouldn’t be Matsuri if we don’t mention all the food. Yes, all the food shown here were sold at Matsuri this year! XD

So yummy~

A test run of Taiyaki before Matsuri. Taiyaki was one of the hottest treats at the festival!

Man the lines were long

Games too!

Last but not least, Matsuri also featured various awesome performances. I was working at the booths the whole time so I missed most of them, but at least I could still hear the music and the cheering sound of the audience from my booth :3 Some performances:

Asayake Taiko!JSA's Soul Run!

NSU's [N]Motion!Guest koto performer, Reiko Obata!

The festival started at 5pm and went on until about 10pm. Everyone worked really hard, the coordinators and some volunteers started setting up in the morning, and a lot of people helped cleaning up after Matsuri until midnight that day. It was a memorable day for me, meeting lots of new people and working together with everyone. I had so much fun. 🙂

A big shout-out to our 2015 Matsuri Coordinators: Tomoki Tamiya, Emily Kawabata, Jessica Lai, and Chisato Akiba. Also, once again, thank you all the volunteers who helped with Matsuri and everyone who came out to join the fun! Matsuri couldn’t have happened without you guys!

See you again next year at 2016 Matsuri!~

My first year with JSA

Hey everyone~~ This is Thao, JSA staff, posting a blog update for the first time so please bear with my sloppy writing XD

It’s been over a year since I became one of JSA staff members~ To be honest, it’s been a truly great time 🙂 Having been with JSA for all of my freshman year, JSA has become a vital part of my college life XD

Most of my time outside of classes and homework is spent on JSA. One of my non-JSA classmates used to be like “You’re going to an event/a meeting? Let me guess, JSA?” and he was always right lolll XD JSA gave me the chance to help with planning events and stuffs, which I find really fun to do, really. I haven’t done much work actually comparing to the senpai’s, but I love helping out whenever I can :3

Last Fall 2014 I was appointed JSA co-head of the Matsuri Advertisement committee (hope you all have heard of Matsuri, which is our annual festival in Spring :P). I honestly enjoy doing this job XD For the whole Thanksgiving break, Matsuri was the only thing on my mind. I also got to meet new people who signed up for the committee from both JSA and NSU. It’s a nice experience, and I’m looking forward to working with them as we get busier in Winter quarter 🙂 On a side note by the way, we’re looking for graphic designers, video editors, and volunteers who like drawing manga, so let me know if you would like to give it a try!

Random picture, random picture... yes it's related :3

Random picture, random picture… yes it’s related :3

// (I can already imagine Sho-kun be like “さすが Advertisement head” hahaha)

There’s one other thing about JSA that I find really interesting. I’m a Computer Engineering major, so among JSA people I hang out with the engineering folks quite a lot. Some people might have heard me say this a dozen times lol, but I’m so amazed by how many awesome engineering pros there are within JSA. They have helped me a lot, and they’re all senpai’s that I look up to and keep trying to catch up with, even though I know I’m still way too far behind 😛 Not only engineering people are awesome; lots of other people are really cool too. To name a few, there’s Sho-kun who’s so good at both writing (makes me go like “さすが Literature major!”) anddd designing (which is why I’m so glad he’s on my Matsuri team XD). There was also Erik, the previous Matsuri Coordinator; he did quite an impressive job and I’m trying to learn from the way he worked. Sometimes I get this feeling that everyone around me is an amazing person in one way or another, and I admire them a lot. That’s why I enjoy hanging with JSA people – they’re always friendly, welcoming, and super cool ^_^

Well, looks like I should end this lengthy monologue here 😛 If you have read this far, thank you XD There’s something I should have said earlier, but…. Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all have a wonderful year ahead, and see you around!
